Our Story

Most commercially available LSAT study material is created by men. elleSAT was founded by women who struggled to learn logic games from this material. Anita and Van feel there are subtle biases in these materials that make them less useful for women and people with learning differences (and we suspect they contribute to a persistent gender gap in LSAT scores).

We started elleSAT to bridge that gap. Every tutor on this site is an independent professional, hand-selected for their knowledge of the LSAT and proven commitment to diversifying the legal profession by providing affordable, inclusive, customized learning experiences for a broad array of students.

While we enjoy working with students of all identities and backgrounds, we approach the LSAT from an unapologetically femme perspective that frequently resonates with people who identify as women.

Julián graduated from New York University in December 2020 and has been accepted at Columbia, Chicago, Duke, Stanford, and Harvard Law Schools. A first-generation student, Julián looks forward to developing resources for aspiring law students in the months before beginning his legal education. He leads elleSAT’s Fee Waiver and scholarship programs.

Julián is extending our Fee Waiver rate to new students through the April LSAT administration. New LSAC Fee Waiver eligible students can work with Julian for $35/hr on a space-available basis.

Van Tran, 175, $120/hr

Van Tran, 175, $120/hr

Van has over 3500 hours of tutoring experience and was rated a top 10% Wyzant tutor in 2020. She has worked exclusively as a test prep tutor since graduating from Stanford University with her BA and MA in English.

Though Van used to work for test prep companies, she made the jump to independent tutoring because of her passion for educational equity. As someone who grew up in a low-income family, Van hopes to reach even more students by setting her own rates. She offers discounted packages (see “Sample Pricing” page).

Kerry Monroe, 177, $120/hr

Kerry Monroe, 177, $120/hr

Kerry is an experienced LSAT tutor, with over 5,000 hours preparing students for the exam. Her students are attending or have graduated from a wide variety of law schools, including Yale, Harvard, Columbia, UVA, and many more.

She earned a 177 on the LSAT and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School in 2010. She practiced in Washington, D.C. before pursuing an M.A. in Law at Yale University. Both her practice and academic work have focused on issues of Media Law and the First Amendment. Kerry has also taught First Amendment as an adjunct law school professor.

Students can book with Kerry directly at her website, LSATmaven.com.

Anita Kinney, 177, $120/hr

Anita Kinney, 177, $120/hr

Anita worked full-time at a leading management consulting company while studying for the LSAT and applying to law school. She raised her score from the low 140s to 177 in just over three months and was admitted to two T14 law schools with over $300,000 in scholarships. She has a true appreciation for the LSAT because it allowed her to overcome her underwhelming college performance, and she views the test as an equalizer for other nontraditional and underrepresented students.

Previously, Anita was an experiential educator and Montessori instructor. A trained librarian, she enjoys assigning supplemental material to her students to help them improve on reading comprehension. To this end, she runs elleSAT’s newsletter. She is pursuing her JD at the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law.
