Our Story
Women, on average, score lower than men on the LSAT, even though they earn higher GPAs in college. There’s a pronounced difference between the number of men and women scoring above 170 on the LSAT too.
Most commercially available LSAT study material is created by men. Could this be a contributing factor to this persistent gender gap? We wondered. So, we started elleSAT: a women-led tutoring company founded by and for first-generation, minoritized, and low-income students.
Every tutor on this site is an independent professional, hand-selected for their knowledge of the LSAT and proven commitment to diversifying the legal profession by providing affordable, inclusive, customized learning experiences for a broad array of students.
While we enjoy working with students of all identities and backgrounds, we approach the LSAT from an unapologetically femme perspective that frequently resonates with people who identify as women.
All tutors work with fee waiver students on a sliding scale, space-available basis — please inquire!

Meet the Tutors
Jenna, the LSAT Yogi, is an experienced LSAT instructor with over four years of tutoring experience. Thousands of tutoring hours have taught her that every student has the ability to improve their LSAT score. Many of her students have gone on to attend top law schools, including Harvard and Yale, and received life-changing scholarships.
Jenna attended NYU Law School and practiced as a litigator at a New York firm for over six years. After leaving the practice of law, she became a certified yoga and meditation instructor and spent several years studying in India and around the world. The insights that she has gained from these experiences profoundly shapes her approach to tutoring. Notably, she specializes in supporting students who struggle with test anxiety.
Kerry, the LSAT Maven, is an experienced LSAT tutor based in Detroit, Michigan, with over 5,000 hours preparing students for the exam. Her students are attending or have graduated from a wide variety of law schools, including every law school in Michigan, and top schools like Yale, Harvard, Columbia, UVA, and Duke. Kerry has also helped many students apply to law school in Canada.
She earned a 177 on the LSAT and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School in 2010. She practiced in Washington, D.C. before pursuing an M.A. in Law at Yale University. Both her practice and academic work have focused on issues of Media Law and the First Amendment. Kerry has also taught First Amendment as an adjunct law school professor and provides private law school and bar tutoring online and in the Detroit metropolitan area.
Many Canadian students have found Kerry over the years because of her proximity to Ontario, and she has learned about the law school admissions process in Canada through their experiences. Consider Kerry if you are applying to law schools in Canada!
Kerry has worked with students with a wide range of learning differences, including legally blind students with a scribe accommodation. After successfully piloting online group courses, Kerry hopes to expand elleSAT beyond 1:1 tutoring — please inquire if your group would like to arrange a private class.
Tasha Stephens, 166, $80/hr
Tasha earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and Bioengineering excels in breaking down the LSAT’s complexities into manageable, methodical components. Her approach transforms the daunting LSAT into a learnable challenge, helping students gain confidence and mastery.
She has already earned entry to many top law schools, and hopes to help as many students as possible before beginning her next career as a patent litigator. As a Fighting for Fairness Fellow and Sidney B. Williams Jr. Patent Law Scholar, she embodies a passion for fairness and equity in the legal field.
Tasha offers more than LSAT preparation. As your tutor, she provides a pathway to understanding and conquering the test, and is eager to help underrepresented students access resources and support to succeed on the LSAT and beyond.
Ali Slader, 165, $80/hr
Ali is a first-year law student in Mitchell Hamline’s low-residency blended learning program. Studying for the LSAT as the single working mother of two young daughters gave Alicia unparalleled insights into the challenges faced by non-traditional law students. After extraordinary success in her first law school application cycle, Alicia experienced an unexpected setback: academic dismissal from the top 50 program where she had earned a significant scholarship.
Nevertheless, she persisted and was readmitted to Mitchell Hamline with a generous merit aid package. Following her strong academic performance in her first semester, she is excited to return to elleSAT. She plans to create informational resources for low-income students and to develop strategic partnerships with universities, law schools, and pipeline programs. A proud member of the Cherokee Nation, Alicia especially looks forward to collaborating with Native-serving institutions.
Ali is now offering LSAC Fee Waiver students tutoring at $35/hr.
Kennedy Ulfig, 179!, $120/hr

Meet the Founders
We founded elleSAT in 2020 to create the LSAT tutoring and law school application support service that we needed as non-traditional students. Along the way, we connected with other independent tutors who share our commitment to diversifying the legal profession by reducing financial barriers to law school.
With the support of many enthusiastic former students (several of whom have joined us as tutors), elleSAT has grown into a thriving hub for independent tutors. Starting our own business was especially meaningful for us because our parents are immigrants, and we have enjoyed creating a launchpad and community for other small business owners.
In September 2023, we stepped back from the company’s operations to focus on our legal education and careers. elleSAT continues to connect students with industry-leading instructors under the capable leadership of Kerry Monroe and Alicia Slader. However, we are still eager to support you on your journey to law school! Please feel free to book appointments to speak with us — we will do our best to share information with you and refer you to one of the full-time tutors in our network.
Anita Kinney, 177, $120/hr
Anita worked full-time at a leading management consulting company while studying for the LSAT and applying to law school. With the help of a tutor, she raised her score from the low 140s to 177 in just over three months. The LSAT allowed Anita to overcome her underwhelming college GPA (she also worked as an undergraduate), and she views the test as an equalizer for other nontraditional and underrepresented students.
A trained librarian, Anita enjoys assigning supplemental material to her students to help them improve on reading comprehension. To this end, she created elleSAT’s newsletter. She is completing her JD at Northwestern University and has extremely limited tutoring availability, but welcomes conversations with prospective students (and especially enjoys talking to others with ADHD).
Van is the proud daughter of Vietnamese refugees. Her experiences growing up in a low-income immigrant household sparked her lifelong passion for educational equity. She worked full-time for nearly six years as a test prep tutor after graduating from Stanford University with a BA and MA in English in 2017. In 2020, she launched elleSAT after observing a need for affordable online services during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Before attending law school, Van also explored public interest law. She volunteered with the Texas Office of the Attorney General's Child Support Division and the Asian Law Alliance. She was a finalist for NYU’s AnBryce Scholarship in 2023, and was also admitted to Stanford Law School.
A native Texan, Van was thrilled to join the University of Texas School of Law Class of 2026 on a full-tuition scholarship. Following strong academic performance in her first semester, Van accepted a 1L associate position. She continues to “pay it forward” with elleSAT by working with a limited number of low-income students during the Spring 2024 semester.
